Website terms
Educate yourself on the terminology associated with websites, web design, and more.
Website Design
Web design is a process of conceptualizing, planning, and building a collection of electronic files that determine the layout, colors, text styles, structure, graphics, images, and use of interactive features that deliver pages to your site visitors. But, while awesome companies like Wix provides a means to easily build your own website, many small business owners find they do not have the experience, "know-how", or time to do so.
Site Engine Optimization (SEO)
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a methodology of strategies, techniques, and tactics used to increase the number of visitors to your website by obtaining a high-ranking placement in the search results page of a search engine, such as Google, Bing, etc. It is rather uncommon for internet users to click through multiple pages of search results, so your web site's ranking is key to directing more traffic to your site. The higher a website naturally ranks in online search results, the greater the chance your site will be visited.
e-Commerce
e-Commerce is a transaction of buying or selling online. Electronic commerce draws on technologies such as mobile commerce, electronic funds transfer, supply chain management, Internet marketing, online transaction processing, electronic data interchange (EDI), inventory management systems, and automated data collection systems. The way e-Commerce works best is by establishing a secure, user-friendly online storefront for your products and services that allows customers to easily convert views to conversions (or sales).
Social Engagement
Social Engagement measures shares, likes, and comments for an online business' social media efforts and is essentially a means for "free" advertising. Sharing your latest work, blog entry, or newest product or service in a Facebook post or tweet has the potential to "go viral". Think about it. You have 50 friends on Facebook or Twitter. Your friends, family members, and clients may have 500 friends linked to their account, too. So, by engaging with 50 people you know, you could end up engaging with 50,000 others.
Blogging
Blogs consist of discrete, often informal diary-style text entries ("posts"). Posts are typically displayed in reverse chronological order, so that the most recent post appears first, at the top of the web page. Some are considered to be multi-author blogs (MABs) and include posts written by large numbers of authors and account for an increasing quantity of blog traffic. Web Design engines like Wix built their own proprietary blog tools for easier integration into their websites.
